SUBJECT: Change in Travel Reimbursement Policy

It has become clear that because of the travel practices of most ABC employees, the current Meal and Incidental Expense (M&IE) per diem policy of one-half per diem when on travel status for more than 10 hours but less than 24 hours, and no per diem for less than 10 hours is not reasonably reimbursing employees for their meal and incidental expenses.

Therefore, effective with the receipt of this memorandum, the company M&IE per diem policies are changed to the following:

a. The twenty-four hour day is divided into four six-hour periods with the first period beginning at midnight and ending at 6:00 a.m. and the last beginning at 6:00 p.m. and ending at midnight.

b. For each period in a given day or portion thereof that the employee is on travel status, he/she receives one-fourth of the applicable per diem. Travel status begins when the employee departs from home or office and ends upon arrival at home or office.

If an employee travels to two or more locations during a given period with more than one applicable M&IE per diem rate, the applicable rate during each six-hour period is that of the location in which the majority of the six hours was spent. Again the employee is under the per diem of a new location as soon as travel to it commences.
