My personal financial plan has been affected by the current Health Care reform law. I work for a small construction company that only has 2 full time employees (the Superintendent and me) and one part time Superintendent. I have been working for the company for 9 years now. After I was employed there for one year my employer covered a health insurance plan for me. Since the company does not have enough employees to qualify for a group employer health insurance policy my boss had me get an insurance policy on my own and he paid the premium every month.

When the Health Care reform law was put into place a few years ago he was no longer allowed to pay for my insurance policy through the company. So I had to start paying for it out of my salary. This definitely has affected my personal financial plan and it continually affects it because every year my premium seems to be increasing at an astronomical rate.

In March I had to renew my families state benefits including our health insurance. During this process I learned that if my husband made even $5.00 more than he does we would have to pay out of pocket for health insurance. Through his work it would be over $1,000.00 a month for our entire family to be covered under basic insurance.

Everyone but my husband see specialist, have weekly doctor checkups. I cannot imagine what those copay would look like not to mention the amount of medication my two oldest kids and myself are on, including a blood sugar monitoring machine. All those expenses plus the monthly payment just to have the insurance would completely break us. My husband would be working just to pay for health care. That is almost like working just for childcare with the prices of daycare and nanny's these days. Before it was required to have health, care was just cheaper for many including myself to just pay my doctor and prescription bills with cash on hands.

A. The Civil Rights Movement was a huge issue in the 60's and beyond. Rosa Parks stood out as a key leader of the movement. Equality in the workplace was a big issue as well at the time. Discrimination against women and lack of wage equality took center stage during these trying times. NOW was influential in going to Congress to lobby for pro-equality laws and assist women as they fought against segregation in the workplace (Dubois & Dumenil, p. 609)

. NOW also brought forward their "Women's Bill of Rights" in 1967 to fully bring to light all of the issues women were dealing with during this time. The ERA was brought to Congress to declare that women should not be discriminated against based on their sex, and demanded states ratify this amendment immediately.

B. The "hippie" movement stands out in my mind during the 60's and beyond because it showed the freedom women were experiencing with their personal and sexual freedom. Care free living, mixed with the emergence of rock and roll, showed that women were taking full advantage of their new freedoms (freedoms they should not have had to fight so hard for). Women in the black power movement showed ferocity, as they became frustrated with the slow progress toward equality among races, they fought that much harder. Angela Davis, with her signature afro hairstyle, became an iconic face in the civil rights movement, and she really stood tall as a leader until real changes were finally starting to be made

Women have fought for so many different issues past, present, and future. In the 1960's women were fighting for employment rights. Also, in the 1970's they were fighting for reproductive rights. Then, in the 1980's they were fighting for educational opportunities. It seemed like they always had to prove themselves even after the second wave of feminism.

Taking a look back, the second wave played a vital role in today's modern era because it placed pressure on the civil rights movement to forbid discrimination due to race and it also later extended federal civil rights to women (DuBois & Dumenil, 2012, p.608). The impact from these three decades on today's modern era is one of endless opportunities and a mindset to continue to strive for greatness.

The National Organization for Women (NOW) was designed to "bring women into full participation in the mainstream of American society." It basically sought equality for all women no matter their race. Alice Peurala is a perfect example of a woman that didn't take no for an answer.

She was denied a higher-paying job based solely on the fact she was a woman and her boss didn't want any women in that position. As a result of the different organizations that support women, she filed an anti-discrimination lawsuit and won. In addition, the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) was set into place for women to have equal rights and opportunities (DuBois & Dumenil, 2012, p.606).
