What is organizational conflict?

Organizational conflict is an act which takes place in the workforce setting. It is a state of discord caused by the actual or perceived opposition of needs, values and interests between people working together.

Why does is occur?

Organizational conflict occurs in the workplace because of cultural, personalities and values differences. Not two people will always think or view things the same.

What one would think is the right thing to do, someone else may think that its wrong. Different religion beliefs can factor into the conflicts in the workplace.

According to our textbook, "Despite good-faith efforts, combining cultures is difficult." I've always said, " Communication is the key to any relationship." Most people don't know how to communicate with others. As the video stated, "Some people see conflict as a problem or negative."

What are some methods of conflict resolution?

In order to resolve conflict, you have to understand the situation. Acknowledge the problem when it occurs, don't allow the problem it escalate. Avoid using coercion and intimidation and focus on the problem and not the individual, establish guidelines for the conversation.

Give an example of a workplace conflict and describe what can be done to resolve it.

Sometimes you may feel like your co-worker is gossiping or back stabbing you. Be considerate when conversing with the other person, no one wants to feel like they are backed up in a corner when someone discussing and issue or situation with them.

Explain why you want to talk to the person and use a proper voice tone. If you feel that your boss is being over bearing, you can set up a meeting with the boss to discuss the matter.

If you can't speak with the boss or the problem isn't resolved, speak with the HR Department about the situation.
