The questions in this workbook are intended to get you thinking about the right sorts of things to include in your written report.

Please note that this workbook IS NOT THE ASSIGNMENT - you are required to write a 3000 words report based on your findings. Do not submit your answers to the questions in this booklet.

You may choose any company that is listed on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) - You must must choose a company from the ASX only though.

I recommend you choose a company that you are either familiar with, or is in an industry that you are interested in as this will make completing your assignment a lot less painful!!

Your aim is to work together to analyse and critically assess the performance and position of your chosen company.

It will require you to complete a full financial analysis and assessment of a company listed on the Australian Stock Exchange. You may select any company listed on the Australian Stock Exchange EXCEPT Telstra and TOLL.

These were popular sites last trimester and thus CANNOT be used this trimester .

You must obtain relevant financial statements from the company website for each of the years that you will analyse and discuss -

There are in the Annual Report. In addition you must also research relevant contextual and performance research from multiple sources.

We suggest you use an industry with which you are familiar so that you can include relevant information, sensible data and deploy your industry knowledge to enhance your contextual analysis and discussion.

The report should adhere to the following requirements:

The work length does not include the Executive Summary, Appendices, or Reference list.

• Executive summary (The first page of your report - one page absolute maximum, double spaced)

• Contents page

• Introduction and explanation of the business.

• Relevant and important contextual information that assists in understanding the financial data.

• Discussion and critical analysis of financial statements linking accompanying material in the context of the particular business and economy, competitors, and any other relevant information to the data to enhance understanding of the business's financial situation

• Conclusion about the financial performance and position of the business, how you see its likely future performance and any other relevant conclusion supported by your analysis and discussion. Reference List.

• An appendix containing details of your analysis; depending on which analytical tools you choose to use, this could include o vertical and horizontal analysis, o ratios analysing the business's liquidity, working capital management, solvency, capital structure and gearing, profitability and efficiency and market performance and o any other relevant areas that you discuss in the body of your report.
