4. During our discussion of the Civil War, we traced the evolution of the war's meaning in mind of President Abraham Lincoln. In your essay, explain how and why Lincoln's understanding of the war evolved from 1861 when the war began to 1865 when it ended.

5. In our final class, we discussed how the Civil War forever transformed America. In your essay, pick two examples of how the Civil War changed America and American history. Be sure to explain your choices and not simply state them. You may draw your examples from class or you may pick your own examples
