You are applying for auto insurance with a new company and a new agent. Give an example of a possible concealment, or being silent when you are obligated to speak. Be specific on the question and the answer. Then, give an example of a possible misrepresentation, or a misstatement of a fact that is material to the application.

Contact your own insurance agent (or any property and casualty agent). Ask him/her of an example of a client who tried to misrepresent facts or conceal important items. Do not ask for names. Do designate whether this client was single or married and their approximate age.

How was the concealment or misrepresentation discovered by the agent or the company? What action was taken after these were revealed? Did these facts come out at the time of underwriting or at the time of a claim?

Did this action cost the company a claim? If so, was the claim paid or how was the settlement handled? Did the insurance company cancel the policy, or did they remain on the risk?

Note: Most insurance agents can give you dozens of examples, especially if they have been agents for several years!
