Adaptation Part

(Harrison Burgeron as one of the main character of this play is not contented with how things are. He is extremely annoyed with everything especially on how the government is carrying out its functions. Despite all atrocities the government is doping against the oppressed, Harrison Burgeron minds never sleeps and he finds his immediate counterpart Police officer and confronts him. Harrison Burgeron assumes that anyone in uniform like Police is urgent of the government, and they should be taught a lesson. Harrison Burgeron is fighting for equal life to all citizens, and none is above the law. The following is a plot analysis in play form that happens between him and the Police Officer, who is in full support of the government doings.)

Harrison Burgeron:(looking frustrated but hopeful for the future) You Officer, I am not happy at all in the way you and silly government are handling the oppressed. I will fight for our rights till the end. (Trying to adjust the heavy weights around his neck and chest). I am Harrison Burgeron, the one and only who fears nobody. Even if you jail me, I will still fight for my right (he yells at every object in front of him).

Police Officer: You and others, the government, will ensure that calm to everyone and deal with those who disobey the rule of law. (He tightens the weights around Harrison Burgeron well to hold him). The government is fair but sometimes more fair enough to individuals like you. Even if you want to fight for so called your rights and rights of oppressed. The Government won't allow such to happen at all.

Harrison Burgeron: Even if you handicapped me and other intelligent people, you would not succeed in this fight. (Trying to shake his head to re adjust huge spectacle on his face). I will fight to win whether live or dead. (Suddenly, Harrison Burgeron cries for a painful slap and a blow from another officer who is not happy for his conversation). You may even hit me harder than that. I will not stop my fight at all.

Police Officer: Who do you thing you are? You cannot fight against the government. We are many and defeating us is just a dream. It is foolish to fight the wind. You are just trying to force things that cannot be implemented. Instead, you should be with your family like others. If you raise above the average height? The government will chop your head off. Many have done what you are trying to do. They ended up crying for help and choosing life and equality. The more you resist to authority the shorter your life. (The officer finally manages to push Harrison Burgeron to the most notorious and isolated cell). Stay there.

Harrison Burgeron: To hell with all your nonsense. Jail will never intimidate me. You and your 'Government' will perish one day. (The officer bangs the door behind as he ensures that the door is rigid). God, please help me. (Series of events clouds his mind and his eyes seems heavy and sleeps).

Police Officer: You stupid. It is time to eat. Wake up. Stretch your elbow and pick the food behind. I have so many things to attend at the moment. (He find his way out of the cell, but he forgets to close the door).

Harrison Burgeron: Thanks you good heavens. (He whispers quietly and stretches his painful arm to pick the left overs food). Before the end of today, I will show the whole country how it means fighting for human rights. (Hardly he finishes the left overs food, Harrison Burgeron realizes that the door is not properly closed. Next, about two meters, a police officer in charge is sleeping though no one can notice. Harrison tiptoes his way out and manages to climb a big acacia. He now sees the highway though some children were playing beside the road. He manages to jump over the electric fence).

Police Officer: I need some coffee please. (He manages to dream loud and assumes everything is fine).

Police Officer 2: What kind of coffee?

Police Officer:(he is awaken by the fellow officer footsteps. He immediately realizes the cell is open and Harrison Burgeron is missing). What? He has escaped!

Harrison Burgeron:(manages to cross many streets and goes straight to the government's television studio). You stop praising the silly government. (He snatches the heavy microphone from the presenter after announcing that Harrison Burgeron is wanted by the security).

Police Officer: (Enters the Studio and find Harrison Burgeron dancing love songs). You silly brat. (Shot guns are heard, and Harrison Burgeron is announced dead).

Rhetoric Analysis

There are several reasons for why and how I created this story. Since time immemorial, there have been impediments of advancement of science and technology. They do bring good benefits but at times, we often suffer in their hands. Crime, evil, and terrorism increases each and often complicated by science and technology.

The play takes a candid description of more aspects of verbatim for play readers to appreciate it. The plot takes place among the old folks whom can aid the writer appropriately capture serious issues in technology and more informed opinions on things. The plot is meant to take place in the house and slightly divert to the ballerina for a while. The setting is not thus easily distorted.

Approaching the year 2081, the search for all people to be equal under the American constitution made the writer to express his concern. The author of this play collects a series of characters to force this notion of life equality. We encounter Harrison Bergeron one of the main characters who drives us crazy. His father George Bergeron is a real victim of what the government wants. He has been tied up with heavy weights around his body and heavy, noisy headsets to confuse his intelligence powers and criticize the government. His wife is a real representation of the intimidating government in the authority. She notices her son being killed in the national television studio and quickly forgets the same scenario. On the same incident, due to the heavy weights tied to his chest and other parts, George Bergeron is unaware of what has happened to his son. The government has found a way to oppress those who may seem intelligent by criticizing it. Harrison Bergeron is not happy with how things are. He goes against all the wishes of government in the name of fighting for equal life to everyone. The police officer with all the authorities accorded to him further intimidate Harrison Bergeron and jailed him. Harrison Bergeron is later killed in the Television studio trying to overthrow the government.

In every case, the government is seeking to force everyone to be equal by raising and lowering their standards. Their differences or inadequacies handicap them. Others are gifted with superior intellect, physical beauty, and other body differences. The ruling government does not accept this at all. Harrison Bergeron is one of the major victims in this plot. He is just 14 with all the intelligence accorded to him. Those he is not happy with this move, he swears to deal with the government and all its supports. According to the government, those who are beautiful and have good looking body should wear hideous masks; intelligent people should be fitted with headsets that jangle and further confuses their mind and nervous system with a series of loud and annoying sounds. George Bergeron is a good example of this. The government finally succeeds in its mission. We see him being mixed up with confusing sounds from the headset. He cannot realize anything around him even the death of his son. The government is trying to handicap all people to make them equal. The main reason behind this is to bring the notion of equality so that no one feels ugly, stupid, or something odd from others.

We also encounter Diana Moon Glampers. He is the Handicapper General, whose main job is to track and deal with all the violators of the law. For those who may seem more intelligent than the government for instance Harrison Bergeron, are killed on the spot. If anyone tries to adjust the weights around their bodies, they face a serious penalty of death. Harrison Bergeron's father does exactly what the authority commands. He fears the consequences of being shot. Others who may defy the authority may face incarceration or even live execution.

Kurt Vonnegut tries to exhaust several themes in this play novel. One of them is Rules and Order. Everyone is under the rules in the event of forcing equal life. No one is allowed to outshine others even in the body looks. Intelligence is most rebuked. Manipulation is another serious theme here that the American are facing. There are no permanent rules. Rules are twisted to favor the ruling government that fights for making all people equal by the year 2081. Other theme features include appearance and competition. The Society has become so repressive and avoid raising questions to what the government is doing. Others are laws are passed, and no one should question its credibility. Others are physically challenged and punished to avoid their intelligent or criticize the ruling government. As Harrison Bergeron tries to oppose the Handicapper General, he is arrested and thrown into mental institutions.

Lack of unity is one of the key aspects the makes the oppressors suffer more. Hazel Bergeron should unite with her son to fight for freedom. Instead, she collaborates with the government, and her characters are just like Diana Moon Glampers the handicapper.

What makes Harrison Bergeron stand out is his courage to face the oppressors, and he is willing to risk his life. His courage is entirely opposite to his father George, who suffers both the handicapped weights and still complain about it. He even denies his wife to remove some weights around. He fears execution.

The paper needed to make an indirect reference and combined with a sense of humour. A special stylish device of aside is used succinctly to capture the present state of this in various countries. A pertinent issue of equality is explained all along in the story. We are challenged to think can we have equality with law and order while can everyone be equal and we eliminate law enforcement agencies. This shall remain the view of each reader, however; it shall aid to give them an academic rigour to it.

Lastly, the story was a summary the unit course requirements as well as to show we understood what we learnt. It is an initial step towards publishing and articulating most our ideas through literature. It shall serve a great purpose to any reader.
