For this milestone, you will choose a local or global issue that pertains to global connectedness and one or more of the topics addressed in this course (globalization, consequences of a global market, predictability and control, cultural politics, and so on).
In the presentation that you will create for the final project, you will explain the issue and how it pertains to global connectedness and any applicable topics. You will also provide a plan of action for addressing this issue. This plan includes recommendations for improvements as well as strategies and a plan for implementing the recommendations.
Use the questions below to help you decide on the specific topic you will address in your final project.
1. Briefly describe your discipline of study or chosen profession, at this point in time, and the impact of global connectedness on it.
2. Describe a social or global issue that is related to global connectedness and is related to your professional and/or personal interests.
3. Given that you will need to conduct serious research on the issue, is it sufficiently narrow to discuss in a presentation that is about 10 minutes in length? If not, what sub-issue within the larger one can you address?
In this short paper assignment, discuss three major social changes to the global community in the last 10 years with the advent of social networking. Make broad use of your reading and videos for this week. Make sure you answer the following question: From a historical perspective, how has globalization evolved?
For your journal assignment this week, spend some time on YouTube and watch between 10 and 15 vlogs uploaded by the YouTube community. Provide an analysis of the vlogs by using Dr. Wesch's lecture on the burgeoning global community via this network society. Your analysis should relate the vlogs not only to globalization but also to one or more of the interdisciplinary subjects that are an important part of this course.
