You may be wondering why in this course you are being asked to review a study guide and take practice exams for the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant certification examination.
You are not required to register for the official exam or become certified as a CMAA. You do need to complete the practice exam assignments by reviewing the study guides and complete the practice exams as a review of the knowledge and skills you had the opportunity to acquire through your previous coursework.
Before you graduate or continue in the Bachelors program, it is important to demonstrate your level of competency in several areas of healthcare management practice.
Beginning this week and in each week of the course, you will review the study guide and take the practice exams. As a healthcare manager, you will hire and direct many employees who support the doctors, nurses and other direct care providers and keep the operations running from patient scheduling through the billing and reimbursement process. Some of these will be CMAA certified.
As you begin this course, answer the following questions: Why is it important for a manager to understand the job responsibilities and knowledge and skills needed by their staff? What is the value of certifications such as CMAA and others such as registered health information technician (RHIT) or certified coding specialist (CCS)?

In this course, you will have Intellipath assignments and the CMAA practice exams to complete every week. Some weeks you will also have Discussion Board and a written assignment to complete.
