Q- While there is a dribble of Back-to-the-Landers reclaiming former industrial farmland it may take something drastic to reverse the urbanization trend in any meaningful way.

As an aside comment, I like to distinguish between America and the U.S. The Americas is a hemisphere as well as the U.S. is a smaller fraction of the whole physically even though its economic power is more robust than everyone else's (don't look behind you but here comes Brazil!). Thus based on my observations here in Central America, I in fever that this is an American problem, not just a U.S. problem.
In the meantime what do think are few strategies for ameliorating the urban environment thus that it moves toward greater Sustainability?
