The Equity Theory is a theory created by John Adams that explains the equality between an employee's inputs vs outputs. In theory, an employee's is motivated and production level is determined by their salaries, benefits, and recognitions. An employee's hard work and enthusiasm is based on how the employer rewards the employee for their work. If they do not receive the equally amount of output for their input, then there is no incentive for an employee to perform well. Instead, they do the minimal amount of work that will keep them employed because anything more will not make a difference in the employee's salary or benefits.

It is important for an employer to recognize the inputs of their employees and reward them accordingly with equal outputs. If an employee goes above and beyond the required task, the employer should recognize the employee for their outstanding work. If an employee offers exemplary skills and abilities to the position, then the employer should consider promoting them the be fair and equal to the employee for their skills. In theory, everything should balance out with the inputs and outputs because this will determine how well your employees perform.
