c. 1-inch margins
d. Page numbers in top right corner

• APA Citations

Scenario
You are working as an employee in the field of your own choosing. As an employee, you are faced with many challenges and decisions, both easy and hard, that make up your working day. On most ordinary work days, you are faced with ethical choices in which a well thought-out plan is desirable, rather than a quick or hasty choice. Your paper is based on both that problem, and the ethical choices that you must consider to reach a defensible solution.

Directions
Pose an everyday problem that may come up at your workplace. This problem does not have to be earth-shattering, but rather something simple, such as "my boss will not talk to me," or, if you are in the medical field, "which patient must I attend to next?"

Describe the problem at length, taking care to mention any pitfalls, ethical problems, or eventual negative outcomes that may result if the problem is not dealt with.

Then, come up with at least two solutions for your problem to report on. Go into detail about the pros and cons of each of the solutions, and then compare and contrast them to each other using research to back up your claims. Either solution should not challenge conventional ethics or law. In other words, your ultimate solution cannot breach your understanding of what is ethically right. Finally, as your conclusion, present your findings based on the logical principles that have guided you through your thought process and describe why one of your solutions is better than the others.

You will need to support your position with research that supports your decision to take one course of action over another. This research must come from scholarly sources to strengthen and explain your position to your colleagues. As you write your paper, you will also make sure to include a discussion of the underlying issues your case brings up, as those issues may affect the decision-making process.

Your paper is based on both that problem, and the choices that you must consider to reach a defendable solution.

This process simulates a real-world application of applying logic to various situations.

By the end of your paper, you should have a convincing argument for your position, that helps resolve the dilemma(s) you have identified as your issue to solve. While you are writing your paper, keep in mind that you will be presenting your findings with your colleagues (your classmates) at the end of the process.

Deliverable Descriptions
Discuss Essential Questions. Formulate a response to the following Essential Questions:

  • Why is it important to understand that there are no "correct" answers?
  • When you compare and contrast various forms of reasoning, what makes some forms more useful than others?

Compose 2 Essential Questions of your own that you think will help you focus the writing of your Portfolio Project and briefly discuss how your questions will guide the development of your Portfolio Project.

Submit Annotated Bibliography
Conduct a search using the Bryant & Stratton Virtual Library. Locate three (3) resources, including at least two (2) scholarly journal articles, for your Portfolio Project. Keep in mind that the final project requires 3 scholarly sources. Cite these resources in APA Style and, in one or two sentences, critically evaluate and explain how each resource will be useful for your paper. Refer to the Bryant & Stratton College APA Style Guide,  which can be accessed through the Student Resources tab.
