Example

One skill that I have attained in my life that I am good at is fishing. I consider myself good at fishing because whenever I go fishing I either catch a lot of fish or several fish that are of good size. This is true for the multiple species of fish that I fish for like bluegill, largemouth bass and catfish. One example of this is when me and my dad went fishing for bluegill and caught over 100 bluegills and most of them weighed close to a pound. Most bluegill people catch are at public ponds where they don’t even get over half a pound. Another example of why I think I am skilled at fishing is when I caught almost 30 lbs worth of catfish in an hour. Growing up, I spent a lot of time with my dad and others fishing in the spring and summer. We would be out on the water for hours trying different techniques to figure out the best ways to catch a lot of fish. By spending a lot of time fishing and a lot of patience, I got to where I would consider myself skilled at fishing.

I go fishing with one of my friends and show him some of my techniques during the summer when our families go on vacation at the same time. We would spend the mornings and part of the afternoon using my dad’s and my fishing technique and would catch more than he would using his way. We did is this way because experience is the best teacher. My friend now uses my fishing techniques all the time. Being successful in fishing relies heavily on a couple of ideas. Some of them are being patient and persistence. One can’t always expect fish to bite immediately. So, the lessons of being patient and persistent have made an impact on my life currently so as not to get to carried away and rush things. I think this will continue on after college where there are more distractions and stressful situations occur that the lessons learned from fishing may be applicable. On top of that, I will take time out of my schedule to go fishing for as long as I am able to fish.
