A philosophy of teaching statement is a narrative that includes:

your conception of teaching and learning

a description of how you teach

justification for why you teach that way

The statement can:

Demonstrate that you have been reflective and purposeful about your teaching

Communicate your goals as an instructor and your corresponding actions in the classroom

Part 1-Review the teaching philosophies in Chapter 5. Which of these philosophies do you identify with the most, and explain why. Provide specifics as to why this/these philosophies align with your personal philosophy. Use the book as your reference and be sure to cite the book on your reference page and in text.

Part 2-Write your own personal teaching philosophy. This is a very personal/professional statement. It is imperative that it is your own. You may use the above reference for ideas, but this is something that you should craft originally. This statement will be fluid, meaning as you learn, it may evolve with you.

Your statement should be at least one page

Use first person (I, me, my)

Describe the strategies and methods you believe you'll use in your classroom

Make it YOURS, don't use anyone else's ideas

Read at least one other person's statement and comment on it
