Using your entry for Blog Assignment #2 and the Impromptu Essay as your starting point, write a three paragraph paper on a particular city site or location. It draws on the Thompson/Bordwell reading, regarding ideas of setting, so make certain that you have read that essay.
This assignment is brief because the paragraphs must each do something in a specific and thorough way.
Paragraph #1 should identify the particular kind of cite site or location. Who uses it and how is it used? What is its history and what associations are connected with it? This paragraph sets up the symbolic and historical associations of the site and should not be about films.
In order to illuminate the character and significance of your site / location, Paragraph #2 should compare your chosen place with a second, related urban site / location, or with another place that is diametrically opposite to the site / location you have identified.
Paragraph #3 should identify at least two films that feature the site / location from Paragraph #1 and describe how this location is used in the films, i.e. what associations it has, and how it is used in the mise-en-scene. Ideally, these associations and the use will tie back to the description of Paragraph #1.
Do not, of course, choose the skyscraper as a location. What we are doing in the class with the skyscraper is an example of how films use the symbolic and historical associations of a prominent urban site / location, not the focus of the papers.
This assignment is worth 10 points, and papers will be scored according to how clearly each paragraph fulfills its purpose in a thorough way, with 3.33 points possible for each paragraph.
Impromptu Essay is write about Golden Gate Bridge and Time Square, because while one provides a perfect location for attracting attention of the public using its famous, the other successfully becomes a land mark to attract people's eyes since it serves as a transportation junction. Many disaster film and science fiction films always happened in those places, such as, The day after tomorrow and Avengers. Two reasons: first, those places have amount of people. Second, those places are well-known.
