a) Identify which approach, Personnel Management or Human Resource Management, your chosen organization adopts. Discuss the differences between the two approaches and discuss how HRM contributes to overall business objectives within an organization.

b) Investigate how the HRM related tasks or responsibilities of line managers in your chosen organization have developed over recent years and in brief discuss the extent of such changes.

c) Select 2 areas of HRM related legislation or legal regulations, and analyze the impact they have on the HRM processes of your chosen organization.

problem 2: Understand how to recruit employees.

a) Outline the phases included the HR planning processes at your chosen organization and describe why it is important for your chosen organization to conduct HR planning.

If your chosen organization doesn’t carry out formal HR planning then you should describe how and why they should undertake HR planning.

b) Compare and contrast the recruitment AND selection processes of two organizations. Assess the effectiveness of some of the methods used in the two different organizations.

(One organization should be your chosen organization used in your earlier answers plus another organization of your choice)

problem 3: Understand how to reward employees in order to motivate and retain them.

a) What is ‘job evaluation’? Describe how and why is it used within your chosen organization? (You must comprise details of all of the factors which the organization uses when determining the pay rates.)

If ‘job evaluation’ does not take place in your chosen organization you must describe how job evaluation should be executed in your chosen organization.

b) Give exs of two different techniques that the chosen organization uses to monitor the performance of employees. Recommend one improvement that could be made by the chosen organization in its management of employee performance.

c) Assess the effectiveness of the reward systems in place at your chosen organization and comment on the link between the reward system/s in place and Maslows ‘hierarchy of needs’ motivation theory.

problem 4: Know the methods for the cessation of employment

a) Compare and contrast the exit procedures used by your chosen organization with one other organization of your choice.

b) List the reasons which employment could cease with your chosen organization. Give details of two elements of legislation or regulation that have had an impact on the employment cessation arrangements of your chosen organization.
