I think each social sites are slightly different from each other. I used to have a twitter account back when it was becoming popular but haven't logged on for many years. From what I observed, Twitter is one giant text machine. Maybe people can view what you posted and respond simultaneously whether they are your friends or not. One the other hand, Facebook allows people to tell a story with photos and postings on their statuses. Each member has the ability to set privacy to their account where only friends can see or even completely under the radar where even if a member where to go into their friend's site to search for an individual, they won't see it at all versus their friend can.
Twitter Business Model is to connect people socially and distribute information vocally through the internet. Tweeting is composed of a few lines that explains exactly what the tweeter is thinking. Being on Facebook, people spend more time updating their status and posting pictures of holiday parties and new links that they find interesting. Not to say that Twitter is better than Facebook, each has their strong points more than the other.
