Took first dose of microgestin Fe 1/20 after a year off. Today marks the 6th day of my period and I am taking it anyway because I don't want to wait a whole month for my utterly irregular period to start again. 

I'm reading on places like Medline and Pubmed that I will not experience he full efficacy of the pill (protection against pregnancy) until my NEXT period because I am starting it outside of the five-day window after I begin menstruating. Last time I started the pill I simply did Sunday start and was good to go within a week. Will it truly make a difference if I started my first pack either four, five, or six days after my period?
