Tom and Mary were in New York city to see a Broadway production of the Book of Mormon. After the show, they realize that their wallets had been stolen by pickpockets during intermission. They went back to the hotel and canceled their credit cards. They also realized that they had no cash or debit cards on them. The hotel was already paid for and they were only there for one more night so they would be okay until morning when they were expecting to checkout. At about 9pm they both became so hungry that they decide that they need something to eat but the room service had ended. Without any money they decided to go downtown. They stop in an Indian food restaurant. They thought that they would explain to the owner that they had no money but would send him money when they returned. Before ordering, Tom stated to Mary, "we are so close to the door and there are so many people here tonight, I bet we could dine and dash." Mary was at first horrified but ultimately decided it would make a good story and she could strike it off her bucket list. They were resolved with their intention to dine and dash, so they did not mention anything to the waiter when they ordered their food. When the bill came for $24.97, Mary excused herself from the table and Tom pretended to receive a phone call. They both made a dash for the door when the waiter shouted "stop" at the same time Tom and Mary ran right into a police officer. They were arrested for theft of services.
