To what extent have modern attitudes to slavery influenced the interpretation of Philemon and Colossians?

Purpose - To provide a synthesis on specific issues occurring within the texts of the New Testament letters. This assessment task provides a student with the opportunity to explore a major theme in relation to New Testament letters.

1. Demonstration of a clear understanding of the principles of historical and literary analysis and of proficiency in their application to specific issues; demonstration of a clear understanding of key ideas, concepts and language; relevant interpretation.

2. Demonstration of ability to utilise tools and resources appropriate to research in the topic.

 3. Demonstration of wide reading of a breadth of scholarship; demonstration of critical, fair and acknowledged engagement of the interpretations of scholars in the field.

4. Demonstration of proficiency in selecting, organising and presenting information relevant to the task, in providing structured critical argumentation and in making informed conclusions.

5. Clear communication of ideas and arguments; accurate use of subject specific terminology; correct grammar, formal register of language, sentence structure, spelling, paragraphing and the Chicago 16 -Theology referencing style (see Academic Skills Unit on LEO or the file uploaded on the unit home page).
