This module ends with the Threaded Discussion topic concerning the use of public opinion, media and freedom of information. These areas are where the terrorist groups seek their success. The terrorists are the media seekers. The purpose of their attacks is to sustain the widest and longest attention towards their cause as possible. Using open press enhances their image, prestige, and ability to survive.

What is your view of the press coverage of the attack by the gunman at Ft. Hood a few years ago? Although not a terrorist incident in the grand scale, it has all the parameters of a similar type of event.

How does this fit the Terrorist profile for a public opinion success? Remember who they are trying to reach. It is not you?

What should be done to negate this asset (U.S. and international media) to the domestic and international terrorist?
