Many argue that racism is an unpleasant part of American history but no longer an issue in today's society. People who support this view typically point out that the US has now had an elected African American president to support their argument.

Others argue that racism is alive and well in American society and that we need to be more vigilant in eradicating it. This group points to the over-representation of non-whites in prison and living in poverty to support their argument.

Regardless of the side you agree with, discussions of race and racism are uncomfortable for most and controversial for many. In fact, many avoid the topic altogether by arguing that to discuss race and racism is to create racism.

Before beginning this activity, be sure to read the Module Notes and the assigned readings and viewings. Use as much detail from the readings and other learning materials in the module as possible to answer the following questions.
