This assignment is your opportunity to demonstrate your ability to express your opinion about the subject matter of this unit. This is an opinion piece. You will not be graded on what your opinion is, but rather your ability to support your opinion with material from the reading (i.e., Track 5 of Dyson's book), any other material presented in the course thus far, and additional sources you have found on your own. In 350 words or more, provide an informative and critical analysis of the following questions. Include as much detail as possible in your writing. Upload your paper as a Microsoft Word document.

Your responses should reflect your knowledge and understanding of Track 5 and your ability to critically analyze what has been presented.

1. Summarize the Don Imus "incident". You may use the internet and/or other sources to help you to gather facts. Be careful, however, in your use of the internet to avoid plagiarism (plagiarized work will receive a grade of zero). Concentrate only on reporting the facts (i.e.,Who is Don Imus? What specifically did he say about the Rutgers players? How did people react to his statement? When and in what context were the statements made? How, if at all, did the Rutgers players react? etc.)

2. Briefly summarize Michael Eric Dyson's opinion of Imus' statements.

3. Explain Dr. Dyson's reasoning for connecting the Don Imus incident to Black women and rap/Hip Hop music. Do you think this is a logical connection? Why/Why not?

4. Do you think there is a logical connection between the way Black women are portrayed in Hip Hop videos and the way Black women are regarded and/or stereotyped in society at large?

5. In your opinion, are media depictions of men a cultural reflection of society's view of women? Explain your answer.
