These are four of the topics to choose from

1. How would Aristotle (or Aquinas) respond to the arguments advanced by Judith Jarvis Thomson and Don Marquis? Be sure to base your arguments on the texts you have read and cite them appropriately.

2. How would Locke respond to the decision in the Kelo case? Be sure to address all three of the opinions in textbook - the majority opinion, authored by Stevens, the O'Connor dissenting opinion, and the Thomas dissenting opinion. Be sure to base your arguments in the texts you have read and cite them appropriately.

3. How would Locke and Hobbes respond to the argument made by Godwin in "The Archbishop and the Chambermaid"? Be sure to base your arguments in the texts you have read and cite them appropriately.

4. Can you think of a clear example of your happiness conflicting with morality (if you can't, don't pick this question!)? If you can come up with a case, what should you do? What would you do? Does it make a difference if the conflict involves a significant contribution to your happiness versus a rather minor breach of morality? What if it were morally very significant but of minor importance regarding your happiness? Can you imagine or have you faced a variety of cases ranging along such a spectrum? Think this question through on the basis of two of the philosophers we have read in the first half of the course, and cite their work appropriately in order to support your claims about their views.
