There are now pre-owned car dealerships that have taken the negotiation out of buying a car. The salespersons are not on commission and the dealer lists the automobiles at a reasonable price for sale. That is the only price at which they will sell the car. However, there are still a lot of customers who prefer going to a dealer where they can bargain as they feel better about the price they have negotiated since they believe they have won a lower price through the negotiation. In a sense, the dealerships believe that their new strategy is in the best interests of both the dealer and the customer, but the customer may be suspicious of this altruism and continue to want to use the distributive approach.
