There are many reasons why municipal mergers/consolidations take place.  Cities merge with other cities, cities merge with counties, and counties merge with other counties.  For this assignment, you may choose any merger that is of interest to you and report on the background, progress, and/or results of that consolidation.  Items you should address in your report:

1. What was the overall reason for the endeavor?Who "spearheaded" the effort?
   1. Quality of services
   2. Cost control
2. Did it have support from the local community?
3. Did it have support from local industry?
4. What was the financial/economic development impact of the consolidation?
5. Did the merger cause a loss of jobs or benefits?
6. Your report must be at least 1000 words in length, double spaced, with references listed in APA format.
