The topic of genetically engineered/modified food is a very hot topic right now. Some argue it goes against nature and can result in health consequences. Other's praise it's innovation in sustaining food sources in a planet with dwindling resources and growing population. Traditionally, it has been plant forms that have undergone genetically modification. Currently 45% of corn and 80% of soybeans are genetically engineered. 70-75% of processed foods on shelves contain genetically engineered ingredients (Spiegleman. A, 2010). The government considers these products generally safe. There are currently no requirements on the identification of these products within the foods that we eat. Do you think there should be? Would it make a difference in the foods that you buy? Why or why not?
