You must write a position paper related to one of the provocative topics that we have discussed this semester, some of which are found below.

A position paper is similar to a debate, but in writing, by presenting one side of an arguable opinion about a provocative or controversial issue.

Your job as the author of your position paper is to convince the audience that your opinion is valid, defensible and based upon facts. In other words, it is very important that you address all sides of the issue and then present one side of the argument and support it with evidence as well as refute the counterclaims to demonstrate that you are well informed about both sides.

You will be graded on the following:

a) Identification of a relevant topic;

b) Clear description of your provocative topic that provides a solid foundation for your argument and includes the counter-position;

c) Demonstration of critical thinking skills reflected in your careful writing;

d) Validation of your position with authoritative sources, such as scholarly articles and books; use of audio and/or video programs are welcomed;

e) Use of the following structure for your position paper:

· An introduction: Identification of the issue and statement of position

· The Body: background information, supporting evidence, discussion of both sides of the issue

· Conclusion: recommendations and possible solutions

f) Format: The exam is to be typed with 12-font, 1-inch margin on all sides, double-spaced, and pages numbered. Include your name on each page. Use correct APA format;10 pages typed.
