Mutation and Recombination crest diversity allowing for natural selection of the "fittest" organisms. Relate mutations and recombination events to the evolution of a bacterial pathogen becoming more or less virulent, and find at least ONE example in the literature to make your point. Further, explain how using the tools such as PCR, sequencing, or electrophoresis allow for the tracking of these changes between strains and countries, as well as over time. How is this complicated by lateral gene? Please include (in-text) citations for the articles you are using as examples.
