The Scenario:

You are all members of a very dynamic sales team and you rely on each other for technical as well as moral support. Recently one of your valued members has been absent more than usual. For instance, he has been coming in late and some of you think there maybe some drinking on the job. He has already been to rehab once and will lose his job if the boss finds out.

You all want to keep this team member as a contributor to your team, so you need to decide as a team what to do. Everyone needs to contribute to the final decision on the action that you will take to try to resolve this problem.

Using this blog, you need to discuss this topic fully and develop an action plan for how you want to work as a team to address this issue.

This exercise is truly about thinking through how a group of people can help a struggling, yet valuable, team member. Be careful though to be realistic in your thinking and considered approaches. For instance, think about an actual work situation with all the rules that are truly in place.

The principles of emotional intelligence should be considered as you are processing options.

The team submission will provide the following:

  • An overall summary on the group thinking as to the strategy that the team wants to employ - this discussion would include discussion of emotional intelligence principles that were considered
  • An action plan which provides detail as to the approach the team will take (this is not a simple list)
  • Contingency plans for undesired outcomes when implementing your plan

The diversity of strengths as a team can play a vital role in reaching the best course of action.
