Proposed Topic: Electronic Health Record (EHR)
For my Capstone project, I would like to explore my findings regarding the current development of the health information technologies.Among the current health technologies,I found Electronic Health Record as one of the most exciting clinical instrument for recording patient's medical history.I found the topic interesting,especially the studies that relied on quantitative techniques for storing data and keeping patient's information safe and reliable.
Electronic Health Records(EHR) has become one of the most valuabletool in the field of clinical research and outcomes. It actsas an instrument of the existing method of research in clinical filed and analytics. It is a digital collection of individual medical information and contains information related to the total picture of human health includingdiagnosis,records of treatment and medication information. It helps in maintaining clinical workflow and automates access to information.
It helps in supporting care related activities directly or indirectly through quality management, outcomes-reporting, and evidence-based decision support.EHRs serves as a vital link between patients and clinicians and helps the providers in making better decisions and health care.
Electronic Health Record helps in keeping updated information about patient's health,and these are designed to store data accurately. It helps in eliminating the need to track down patient's past medical records and assist in safeguarding data is legible and accurate. The risk of lost paperwork is reduced as all information regarding patient's history can be recorded at one place,and thus the potential for data replication is reduced.
Electronic Health Record(EHR) is often used interchangeably with Electronic Medical Record(EMR).EHR is a longitudinal collection of patient health information,whereas EMR is the patient record created in specific hospitals which serves as a data source for EHR. Thus,EMR is a narrow view of patient's medical history,and EHR is a detailed report about person's overall health.
Proposed Research Statement
The proposed research task is to analyse the cost benefit of using Electronic Health Record (EHR).Research studies have shown increase in the number of patient visits and decrease in the staff time required for common tasks. Introduction of EHRs help in reducing error, improve patient safety and reduce the staff time required for common tasks.
