When considering sports business careers, keep in mind that being a professional athlete or coach is a reality for a very small percentage of people. Most individuals work in the world of sports in a variety of other capacities. Below you will see a list of just a few occupations that can be found within different sectors of the sports industry.
- Sport Performance: Event management, fitness and sports firms, sport finance, information technology, research and analytics, and team operations.
- Sport Production: Retail sales, manufacturing, sporting goods/brands/consumer products, amateur and youth sports, sports governing bodies, facilities and operations, coaching and scouting, and fitness training.
- Sport Promotion: Communications and public relations, sales and marketing, technology and social media, sports marketing suppliers, and media.
Conduct research about the sports business industry and identify three potential career opportunities that are of interest to you. Use the list provided above as a starting point in your search of sports industry careers. Do not feel limited by this list, but rather use it to help you generate other more specific jobs that may be of interest to you.
