The paper should have: 3 to 5 pages of solid content as described below
a. Be succinct in your writing. You are not writing a novel, so avoid verbosity to stretch the word count.
b. Analyze the case/topic. You can bring in outside resources to make your point, but you should stick to the case/topic for most of your content.
c. Make sure to set 3 or 4 goals for yourself, stating what you want to conclude form the data set you have chosen.
Understand the topic at hand. If you don't know what you are talking about, then you won't do a good job.
The report outline should look like:
- Introduction about the data
- Your goals or questions you want to find an answer for
- What are the different variables in your data (gender, age, income, different questions and etc.)
- Analysis of Data (Describe the method you are using)
For example, you could say "using descriptive stats I found that the average Text Messages to be sent by females on a daily bases is xx and this number is based on a sample of xx"
The analysis part should include the following
- Descriptive Stats
- Data summarization (Pivot Tables, charts and histograms)
- Population interval estimations
- Hypothesis testing
- Conclusion

Support your conclusion with numbers, charts and histograms
Text Messaging Activity
The data available is data collected from a group of teenagers using text messaging. They were asked different questions, like:
Gender
Messages Sent per day
Messages Received per day
Hours hanging out with friends per week
Hours spent on homework per week
Platform used for texting
Age
Use this raw data to analyze the text messaging activity for teenagers and develop a population interval estimation, as well as a hypothesis (instructions are available on the spreadsheet)
The outline for this paper could be like the following: (it is also up to you if you want to develop a different outline)
a. Introduction
1. How important text messages are nowadays?
2. Do a quick research to understand why it is important to find numbers and facts about text messaging.
b. Define your goals. You might set goals like:
1. Comparison between males and females on the 4 different variables available
2. Average messages sent and received
3. Population interval estimation for messages sent and received
4. Correlation between any of the variables
c. Define your variables
d. Analyze your data to find the answers for your goals
e. Draw your conclusion.
