The Old Negro was slaves and treated like animals and sometimes they were bitten if they didn't follow their master’s orders. They were also treated like Muppets playing by their owner. Whites rejected the African American in the American society. They were considered as savages, objects and even a dog were treated way better. They thought they weren't their worthy enough because of their colors. The whites clarify that they were not even accepted in the eyes of God. They were rude to them and disrespectful. For those slaves who opposed the juxtaposition of the white supremacist were slaughtered. In addition, they would bomb their houses and churches. The worst thing is that they couldn’t categorize a small amount of care for the children. Harlem as a site of the black cultural sublime was invented by writers and artists determined to transform the stereotypical image of Negro Americans at the turn of the century away from their popular image as ex-slaves which were known as the Old Negro. Alain Locke developed the concept of the New Negro as the new revolution for African American citizens. The new spirit is awake in the masses, and under the very eyes of the professional observers is transforming what has been a perennial problem into the progressive phases of contemporary Negro life. In 1925, Alain Locke published his famous anthology entitled The New Negro. In the essay he wrote to frame the moment as he saw it, also entitled "The New Negro," Locke described the landscape of Harlem as filled by different notions of what it meant to be a black American. Web du Bois and Marcus Garvey views were opposed to each other. As an illustration, Garvey suspected Du Bois was prejudiced against him because he was a Caribbean native with darker skin. Du Bois description of marcus identity Marcus as "a little, fat black man; ugly, but with intelligent eyes and a big head." In response to Du Bois “purely and simply a white man's nigger" and "a little Dutch, a little French, a little Negro, a mulatto, a monstrosity. Despite opposing views they possessed one thing in common that the African American had gone to an iconoclastic phase, a destructive era to a more progressive way, and sophisticated socialite in the political system.
