The Kayapo are an indigenous group of Indians living in the rainforest of Brazil . The discovery of gold drastically changed the lives of the Indians. Some of them actually became "businessmen" in order to save their traditional way of life. The Brazilian developers also wished to build a dam that would force Kayapo out of their lands. International recognition of the work of Altamira protesting the dam won international attention.
