The focus of this learning activity is negligence.

Scenario: You are the owner of a busy, downtown coffee shop called "Coffee Corner". It is open 7 days a week. Approximately 300 customers come in and out daily to purchase coffee, breakfast and lunch sandwiches, snacks, and to use the free wifi.

One day, just before the shop opened, an employee dropped a large urn of coffee so that coffee spilled over a large section of the shop, including an area near the entrance. Employees quickly began mopping the floor. When it was time to open the shop, large areas of the floor had been mopped, but were still damp. Other areas of the shop had not yet been mopped and were obviously covered with spilled coffee.

You opened the shop on time, but an employee continued to mop the spilled coffee. You posted a large floor standing sign outside and just inside the entrance that said, "Caution, coffee spills - wet floor".

Customers immediately began entering the shop. About 5 minutes later, a regular customer named Zanni, slipped on the wet floor and broke her wrist.

A. Analyze and discuss whether Coffee Corner has any liability for Zanni's juries, and why or why not.

B. Discuss what Coffee Corner could have done to prevent the accident and Zanni's injury.
