The final paper is a 1300 word research paper that discusses one of the following topics:

1. The transatlantic Slave Trade and the Economic Development of the American South

2. The impact of slavery on the role of African/Black men in the African/Black Community

3. The Black Power Movement and Kwame Ture (Stokely Carmichael)

4. The media and the African/Black Community

5. Civil Rights in the 21st Century

These topics are very broad and leave room for students to direct your research based on your interests.  Please make sure that you include the following in your paper:

1. A title, your name, the course name, the date, and "For Professor _________________.

2. An introduction leading up to the main point or thesis of the paper

3. Information organized by paragraph, starting off with a topic sentence.  Make sure the topic sentence directs both the content and the purpose of the paragraph for the reader.

4. In-text citations and a final page of full citations, using MLA Style

5. Double space your text and number your pages

5. A conclusion

6. Excellent grammar, punctuation, and spelling

You may use visual images or links to YouTube films or websites, if the content is directly relevant to the points you are making in the text.  Do not assume a reader will simply make the inferences you want them to make.
