1) The difference between crime mala in se, such as murder, rape, incest - they are wrong everywhere, always; and crimes mala prohibita, such as gambling, prostitution, underage drinking, and other so-called 'victimless crimes' - they are wrong only because a particular society has defined them that way.
2) Consider the practice of homosexuality. Thirty years ago it was recognized as criminal and a diagnosable mental disorder, but it is no longer viewed as such. Groups should address the following question:
- What might be the reasons for the change in cultural perceptions about homosexual practices?
- Do you believe that homosexuality represents behavior that should be defined as mala in se?

You are a police officer patrolling a fairly remote area near the coast line during a fast approching storm and tidal surge. You receive an urgent radio message that a woman and five small children are stranded on a beach near your patrol area. There is a 10 minute window to reach them before they face certain doom. The only way to get to them with the time available is with your car. However, the road narrows between two cliffs to the width of a single vehicle, and there is no way around. As you approach you notice a man with his leg stuck in a crack in the middle of the road between the cliffs. You determine you cannot help him as it will take the fire department and EMS to free him. What are you going to do?
