The DARE program and The War on Drugs have heavily shaped the mindset of what it means to use drugs in the United States. A lower threshold for tolerance is set in our community in comparison to groups who use substances ceremonially (e.g. peyote, ayahuasca), or places where many drugs are or are technically legal, or less regulated, or available to younger ages (essentially all of Europe fits into at least one of these, particularly the latter).

Meanwhile the vast majority of people drink at least socially, and cannabis is gaining acceptance for recreational use. How do you view substance use in terms of differentiating use from a use disorder, and how do you think the current culture affects your view and that of others?
