The Backup and Recovery plan

Develop a specific strategy for backing up the key information system's data. A backup provides an exact copy of a system’s information that is used for recovery in case of a loss.  Recovery is the ability to get a system up and running after a crash.  Detail the backup and recovery strategy, include the type of backup media, the process, the timing, and the storage of the backup.  Address the process that will be use to recover data from these backups in case of a data loss.

Disaster Recovery Plan

To combat disasters, a company must create a disaster recovery plan, which details the process for recovering information or a system in the event of a catastrophic disaster.  Disasters can have serious impacts on a business, in the plan, specifically address how the company will handle:

Disruptions in communication

Damage to the physical infrastructure (buildings, equipment, systems…)

Halting of transportation

Blocked utilities (no water, heat, power, natural gas, etc.)

The strategic use of a hot site, cold site, and/or warm site to protect data, hardware, and people

Business Continuity Plan

The key to dealing with emergencies, is emergency preparedness.  The company must be ready to respond to an emergency in an organized, timely, and effective manner. A business continuity plan details how a company recovers and restores critical business operations and systems after a disaster or extended disruption.

The plan must include:

An identification of all of the critical systems, business processes, and departments (this is the core operation of the business)

The maximum amount of time the business can continue to operate without functioning systems

The detailed Business Continuity Plan
