This discussion continues the discussion of heroes, but also entails focus on how this epic illustrates Roman values and Roman achievement. Be sure to give extra attention to the historical background on Rome - and especially in the age of Vergil and Augustus.

Instructions:

Describe how Aeneas illustrates the values of Rome and societal expectations for behavior. How do different episodes in Aeneas' journey illustrate Roman ideals and also Roman superiority?

The Romans celebrated their culture and beliefs with columns and friezes, for example. Consider how the Roman-style architecture in such cities as London, Paris, Toronto, Washington, D.C. help bring Aeneas to the present time.
