Task

In Week 3 students will submit an audio recording of themselves. Students will be presented with two questions from topics 1-3 and will be required to explain their answer verbally in the recording. Students will take on the role of mentor/teacher and will be required to present their own understanding and knowledge on each of the questions as if to their own student(s). Students should take care to express their understanding in their own words.

Question 1: What do we mean when we say that even written communication can function like a dialogue in the mind of the reader? How does this affect the writer's responsibilities?

Question 2: What is meant when we say that online writing, unlike paper texts, is more like a mosaic or 3D structure? How might this affect how we write emails?

Each answer you give should be approximately two minutes in length. The first minute is used to explain the concept in your own words, the second to give an example of it in a useful context. Thus the entire recording is four minutes in total.

Students do not need to record this in one single take, and may use the "pause" feature of their recording system to record their answers in increments if they wish, so long as upon playback they are heard as one smooth presentation. It is assumed that students can and should plan their recordings in advance and may use a written script to form the recording. Note that this is not meant to be a recording of a simulated "live" discussion, but a deliberate pre-recording of information.

The filename should use the standard file submission format. The recording should be in MP3 format (preferred), but other compressed formats including AAC may be used. Uncompressed formats may leave the file size too large (it should be under 10Mb, usually under 5Mb).

The aims of this test are:
- Assess your ability to understand the content presented in the first three topics
- Assess your ability to contextually re-present that knowledge in your own words.
- To help prepare students for subsequent assessment 3 in which a live recording will be required.

This assessment task requires students to demonstrate the knowledge and skills listed in learning outcome 1.

The file should be a compressed audio file preferably in MP3 format and less than 10Mb in size. It can be recorded using any system or method (including smart phones or similar) so long as the recording is of understandable quality. The format requirements of this assessment include the ability of the markers to understand the spoken recording and format penalties may apply due to poor quality recordings which are difficult to hear or listen to. Excessive background noise and similar may also cause format penalties to apply.

Recordings that sound too disjointed (due to poor resumption after pausing) may also incur format penalties. The duration requirement of 240 seconds will be subject to the usual penalties normally associated with word counts. A variation of 10% will be allowed without penalty, but recordings that go beyond 264 seconds may be penalised as if exceeding the "word count".

Recordings that excessively exceed the duration requirement may not be marked on any material beyond certain duration. This ensures fairness to all students and avoids unfairly advantaging students who have more detailed discussions in longer recordings.

Requirements
- File should be MP3 format.
- File should be less than 10Mb in size.
- File should use the students name format.
- Students should introduce themselves at the beginning of the recording.

400 words each question, total of 800 words
