Using the research question developed during assessment 1 develop a logical and congruent research proposal to answer this question. Present the proposal and the justification discussion under the following headings:

4. Participants i.e. recruitment, sampling etc.
5. Data collection
6. Data analysis
7. Rigour OR Reliability / Validity
8. Ethical issues - also discuss in-text and attach the UOW formatted participant information sheet and consent form as an appendix
9. Limitations
10. Conclusion

Consider carefully the research approach based on the framing of the question (i e congruence between question. philosophy. research design and the elements of the proposal). You must show evidence of understanding the research process research methodology and design considerations.

Essay writing principles apply. Headings should be used. Please use critical discussion not bullet points or lists.

Support all statements by referring to appropriate contemporary research based literature. You must use a broad range of literature to support all elements of the research proposal providing a critique of the literature to support assertions. It is strongly suggested that multiple research texts or papers about research methods are used to underpin your work.

Assessment 2 Research Proposal - Information for Students

• Assessment 2 is a proposal of a potential research project that you would undertake in the future. THIS PROJECT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE COMPLETED.

• It must be your own work for this subject (and not a proposal that has been generated for a grant, another subject or other research).

• Only the elements of the proposal as requested in the assessment details are to be discussed (due to word length required for assessment). For example: The proposal does not include instruments that you develop (i.e. a questionnaire, interview schedule) if for example, you identify that a questionnaire would be developed then justify and explain the type of approach you would take for such a questionnaire as per your readings.

• You must demonstrate understanding of the paradigm you are working within and congruence of ideas is especially important for this proposal.

• The idea is that you develop a proposal for a research project that can be reasonably undertaken, providing evidence that you understand the components of the proposal requested and can justify the ideas you propose from the literature/texts. You are showing evidence of learning from the activities & readings on the Moodle site.

• Restate your question (Use the PICOT or PICo formats - or SPYDER) in your introduction to provide a brief overview of the ideas associated with this question and its development plus the significance. This statement would reflect the paradigm of research you are working within. Please note you do not need to repeat the literature review undertaken in assessment 1.

• Ethics forms - please use the UOW Research Office Ethics Forms to show that you understand how to meet ethics requirements for the Participant information Sheet and the Consent Form. Your proposal requires a discussion about key ethical principles - based on your research question, design, participants etc. You are not asked to submit a NEAF or MOH Ethics application. However, many of the ethical components relevant to these documents study may need discussion i.e. children, older persons: vulnerable groups.

• Academic writing is critical for this paper - please use full discussion - all statements must be accurately referenced - lists or dot points are not usually appropriate. Paragraphs should have 3-5 sentences minimum to enable a well-developed and logical argument. Ensure paragraphs have a topic sentence and premises that support the topic sentence. Headings can be included to separate major ideas in the proposal if this helps you with organisation. Seek help from UOW Learning and Development with draft versions of your assessment paper as necessary - see assessment 1 feedback and incorporate learning into your second assessment.

• A variety of references should be included - for example, research text books that illustrate ideas about the paradigm you are working within for your question, ideas associated with the key ideas that need to be included in the proposal - perhaps references that support the research approach for your question, ethics, rigour, etc.

• The SN uses Harvard referencing style and I use the versions on the UOW Library Webpage as illustrations of referencing for marking.

• Before you submit - review the marking rubric to ensure you have met all aspects of the assessment.

• Please submit as per the instructions for the assessment in your subject guide and on the Moodle site - Label your assignment as requested to ensure the assessment item is returned to you appropriately and it is not misdirected. Also ensure that the submitted version of the assignment is submitted via Turnitin.
