Sustainability Report

1. Prepare a Sustainability Report

Research and prepare a report documenting the latest thinking in sustainable design for housing. This report should include images/ graphs/ tables or photos that help explain the concepts.

For this assignment the key areas of your research should focus on Solar Passive Design. Your research should include, but not be limited to:
- Orientation
- Solar access
- Solar shading
- Thermal mass
- Ventilation
- Glazing
- Insulation

Write your report in a concise manner, using subheadings as appropriate.

Your report should be properly presented and must include a Title Page and Table of Contents. The report itself should be no more than 10 pages long and should include images to explain the concepts.

2. Recommendations to client

Using the information in the report prepare a letter for your client to explain your Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD) recommendations for the design of their house.

The letter should explain to your client the sustainable features you are planning to include in the design. Your client should be able to read your letter and refer to the report if they want further information.

This letter is to be no more than 2 pages long.

3. Prepare an ESD Concept Site Plan

Prepare an ESD Concept Site Plan on A3 at a scale of 1:200. On this sketch you should show:
- The site boundaries
- The setbacks required by council
- The recommended building position on the site. Remember this is only a concept, but you should propose a form that will allow you to implement the ideas you have been researching.
- Show the desired zoning within this building form for Living area, Bedroom areas and wet areas (as a minimum). This can take the form of a bubble diagram.
- Show how your building form allows for the implementation of sustainable features such as prevailing winds, solar access etc. This can be in the form of a plan, sections, elevation or concept sketches.
- Your plan should include notes to explain all the ESD strategies that you will be including in your scheme.
- This plan should be properly presented to be used as a reference for your client.
- This plan will become one page in your Concept Design Documentation in a future unit.

Submission
Sustainability Report including:

1. Sustainability Report - A4 format with a title page and contents page

2. A covering letter introducing the Sustainability Report to your client and explaining your recommendations to your client. To be submitted on A4 letterhead.

3. ESD Concept Site Plan on one A3 sheet.

Note: There are a few parts to the assignment but you need to do only the Sustainability Report in A4 format with a title page, contents page, referencing and bibliography.
