Instruction for completing the research paper:

You have to prepare 6-8 pages paper called “crime in my neighborhood”. This assignment Is intent to assess your ability to solicitation information-data- from people in your neighborhood who have an opinion about this topic and to present their point of view, accompanied by your analysis. Your paper will not be graded on the basis of how accurately your research subjects describe the actual situation in your neighborhood, but rather, by how well you have capture their perspective.

The paper must be typed, double spaced and set with reasonable margins. The paper does not require you to use any scholarly books or papers, but the paper cannot be based on written or secondary sources.

You are being asked to talk with people who live or work in your neighborhood and who are willing to express their opinions about how the crime situation ( or the lack of one) in the neighborhood and to talk about how the neighborhood may have changed over the last several years with respect to crime . These people should not be involved directly involve with illicit acts. The paper is not intended to solicit the opinion of criminals. The people that you talk to must only have an opinion about crime that they are willing to share with you. As much you may interview just about anyone in the neighborhood about this topic, including next-door neighbors, family members, your mail carrier, grocery store clerks, your local beat cop, etc.

The paper cannot be primarily autobiographical. This paper is about your ability to represent someone else’s point of view, not how much you know about this crime scene. You are allowed to offer you own opinion or analysis in the paper, but only as it relates to the “data” that you collect and present.

You must use pseudonyms, that is, you may not use people’s real names.
