----> Machine A ----> Machine B ----> Machine C ----> Machine D ---->

5.5 units/hr. 18 min/u 70 min/u 2.5 u/hr

The above diagram shows that machine A can process 5.5 units of product per hour.

On the other hand, each unit of product must be processed for 18 minutes on machine B.

Similar information are shown for the other two machines.

Assume that one unit of product requires one unit of raw material.

[1] What is the hourly capacity of the system (in units per hour)?

[2] Suppose we improve Machine C. After improvement, each unit

of product only requires 20 minutes manufacturing time on machine C.

What is the new hourly capacity of the system?
