Supersize Me is an award winning documentary film released in 2004 that followed the filmmaker, Morgan Spurlock, as he ate nothing but McDonald's ® food for a month. His increase in weight and decline in health is documented in the film. This film put McDonald's squarely in the spotlight.

McDonald's Corporation had already been in the spotlight when a lawsuit against them was filed in New York alleging that McDonald's food was contributing to children's obesity. A judge dismissed that lawsuit. Several others also initiated similar lawsuits but in March 2004 the House of Representatives approved a bill that would ban such lawsuits. At the same time, McDonald's announced that it would remove its supersize fries and drinks by the end of the year.

Each of you will plan TWO days of eating only fast food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The goal for the first day's plan is to find the BEST of the possible choices from ANY fast food restaurant. The goal of the second day's plan to find the WORST of the possible choices from a DIFFERENT fast food restaurant.

Guidelines

  • The meal plan MUST be realistic in what is being consumed.
  • No restaurant can be used for more than one meal.
  • Meal plans can be "supersized"
  • Nutritional information can be obtained directly by visiting the restaurant or finding the nutritional information online

In your first posting, you must identify the total calories, calories from fat, and calories from saturated fat for each of your meals as well as provide a total of calories, fat and saturated fat for each day. Discuss if you met, exceeded or were under the DRI for fat intake each day. You must also discuss why you chose the particular restaurant and how you came up with the meal.
