AIM

This major piece of assessment has been designed for you to demonstrate your understanding of the unit's concepts and their application in the case of an online digital repository platform. It is a particular opportunity for you to develop and demonstrate your understanding of digital continuity, preservation issues, metadata, policies and best practice for keeping records as evidence, memory and cultural heritage. You should also look to demonstrate knowledge of the concepts and issues around the theme of rights and privacy in an archival context.

YOUR TASK

You will critically evaluate the Central Otago Memory Bank Digital Repository from a digital continuity perspective and write a report providing advice on how the digital repository platform could be improved so that it addresses the needs and objectives of the Central Otago Heritage Trust and better complies with the relevant privacy legislation.

Your report will:

1. Use the Open Archival Information System (OAIS) Reference Model as the basis for your analysis of the stakeholder needs and functional requirements for the digital repository; then make recommendations on how to better address the long-term preservation of the archival materials to meet all the stakeholders needs.

2. Make recommendations on metadata elements to be included based on the Generic Metadata Model in the AS/NZS ISO 23081.2 Standard.

3. Make recommendations on how to address the privacy concerns of the current and potential users.

Note that you do not need to create an account with the Central Otago Memory Bank in order to complete this assignment. The information available on the ‘About' and ‘Help' pages is sufficient.
