Because you were assigned an excerpt from this text, you should be prepared to discuss Pugin's position as a social reformer who used the agency of architecture to redress the ills brought about by the twin evils of the industrial revolution and the separation with the Church of Rome. He felt that Henry VIII was wrong to found the Church of England, and although he was born and raised as a Protestant, he converted to Catholicism in order to pursue a faith that he felt was more closely tied with England's medieval roots.
