Step 1: Find a song you enjoy or find interesting. Copy the complete lyrics down. Lyrics are usually found in the CD jacket or online. This song must contain at least one metaphor or simile.
Step 2: Write 3 paragraphs including the following
Examine the song lyrics as an example of poetry.
-first, give the song's title and artist.
-next, give any information about the time period when the song was written (ex: The Beatles writing songs in the 6o's & 70's).
- find sound patterns - rhyme, rhythm, alliteration, etc.
- then, describe what the song is about (its literal meaning)-give a 2-4 sentence synopsis of what is going on.
